Core Commitments

Each core commitment is our attempt to humbly and thoughtfully apply the timeless truth of God's Word with an eye toward the ever shifting cultural landscape both within the church and without and say, "These are the things that we want to define us. They are the heartbeat of our leadership, and we want to emphasize them because we think they are not well represented/understood/etc. in the ongoing conversation." These 5 commitments lay out what we hope to be defined by and what we will be continually aiming for.

  • Loving Him First – The great commandment is the call to love the Lord with all our heart, all our mind, and all our strength. At LBC, we believe this means that God's will and desires become our great goal. We no longer seek to serve self-first, but Him. We love him by pursuing a relationship with Him and seeking satisfaction in Him. We believe that God created our lives to orbit around him and our lives will be empty and out-of-sync when they orbit around anything else.
  • Living by His Word – At LBC, we believe that God's word is entirely perfect, divinely inspired, and sufficient to guide, direct, and instruct every area of our lives. It rules us, it feeds us, it guides us, and it strengthens us. When Satan tempted Jesus to turn stones into bread, Jesus responded, "Man shall not live by bread alone, but by every word that proceeds from the mouth of God." So, too, we see God's Word as the lifegiving source of our knowledge of God's will, promises, and truth. We show our love for God by the way we love cherish His Word and seek to live every detail of our lives in accord with it.
  • Rooted in His Gospel – At the center of the biblical storyline and of human history is God's eternal plan to redeem a people for himself from every tribe, tongue, and nation – a people that has been purchased, justified, and cleansed by the blood of Jesus Christ. This is a message of overwhelming GRACE. This is not just GOOD news, this is the BEST POSSIBLE news for a sin-sick and rebellious humanity. This is the message that brings life and light to those dwelling in death and darkness. It's also the message that continues to sustain us and give us strength and grace to grow in our Christian life. As Christians, we NEVER grow PAST or BEYOND the gospel – we only grow more DEEPLY rooted in it.
  • Driven to Make His Disciples – The final command Jesus gave to his disciples before he ascended to heaven was to "Go and make disciples of all nations." At LBC, we believe that to be a disciple and make disciples is the call of every Christian, not a select few. Discipleship is simply the process of intentionally encouraging, exhorting, instructing, calling and challenging ourselves and those around us to more faithfully follow Christ. This is the great mission of the church. We follow Christ as disciples when we leave our agendas, our desires, and our rights and seek to make his glory and the good of others our great aim.
  • Committed to the Growth of His Body – At LBC, we believe that there is no such thing as lone-ranger Christians…or at least there shouldn't be. The church did not develop by accident. Nor is it man's idea. The local church was created by God as the primary vehicle for advancing the kingdom of God and caring for, shepherding, equipping, providing accountability for and discipling individual believers. Each local church is only as healthy as each member is growing in Christ. The analogy most commonly used is of a body with a variety of members, but one spirit which animates the body to grow and build itself up in love. Therefore, you need the body and the body needs you. To separate or isolate yourself from the body does you harm and does the body harm.
